I’m so excited about this project! I’ve been working on it for the last three days during nap time and in the evenings. At times I was so impatient to finish it! I needed something to go in this blank space above the entertainment center in the family room. Here’s what I came up with for about $8.00 and change.
We hung it way up here. It took some serious ladder action.
After some careful measurements and a few acrobatic maneuvers we have this!
I love it! It’s the perfect filler for the blank space created by the cathedral ceiling and it brings the fireplace wall color over to this side of the room.
Here’s how I did it. I grabbed a couple of two packs of 16×20 canvases at Michael’s last week when they were on sale for $5.98. Plus, I had a 40% off coupon! I also picked up extra white craft paint for two dollars.
When I got home I painted three of the canvases with blue paint that we used on the opposite side of the room. When that was dry, I sketched the tree on to the canvas with a pencil and then painted it with the craft paint. It definitely needed two coats of paint.
My inspiration was this set of 3 tree canvas panels from JC Penney.
I’m not an artist and up close it’s not perfect. But the imperfections give the tree some texture and depth – like actual bark (well, that’s what I’m telling myself anyway). Either way the canvases are hung up so high no one is getting such a close look at it!
