Good Morning! Today we are all home because school is closed due to an ice storm. As much as I love being able to hit the gym and get the errands done go thrifting while the kids are in school, snow days allow us all to have a calm, relaxing morning without all the buswillbehereanyminuteputonyourshoesanddon’tforgetyourlunch drama. Also I have time to blog!
Last week Olivia turned FIVE! That is my baby y’all.
I LOVE LOVE birthday party decorating and this year Olivia had two requirements: Tinkerbell and reading. Naturally we chose a “Fairy Tale” theme. And I got right down to pinning all sorts of inspiration.
To save money we had the party in our church hall for a small fee which allowed me to also engage Tinkerbell to visit and read a story to the kiddos. The rest of the party decor was homemade or picked up at Dollar Tree, Michaels and Oriental Trading.
Here’s the cake table. The white table cloth backdrop was not behaving so please excuse that mess.
The birthday girl was very clear that the cake must be in the shape of a book and she chose pretzels and cheetos to serve to her guests. We also had fruit salad, “pixie” punch (strawberry lemonade) and pixie sticks. (Note to self: don’t give pure sugar to twelve 5 year olds even if it goes perfectly with your theme.) Roses from Costco, a darling book garland and a fairy garden finished off the cake table.
I set the table with a cute chevron paper runner from Oriental Trading. Then we used a mix of plates, napkins and cups. I hate matchy-matchy paper products!
Olivia and I created these fairy gardens for the centerpiece. We had so much fun working on them together every day after school. We purchased the animals, moss and toadstools at Micheal’s, Dollar Tree and Hobby Lobby. I just happened to have slabs of wood lying around because that’s how I roll.
