Today I’m participating in #thriftscorethursday. Thrifting is my bread and butter so this is a natural fit! Plus it’s hosted by some of my very favorite ladies!
I have been designing and (ahem) re-designing our living room since pretty much the beginning of this blog. At first, we had no furniture or money and it was going in a very traditional direction. But after I painted the fireplace brick I changed things up and got a little more eclectic.
This look didn’t last very long – the shelving units now make their home on the left side of the room. Instead, I envision two similar sized mid century pieces flanking the fireplace. (I have one already! Pray to the Craigslist gods I find another.)
The mantel now reflects the mood I want to set in this room, all because of a recent thrift score! Here’s a cell phone pic of the piece before.
This little cabinet may have been part of a mid century wall unit. It has two shelves inside. Even though I had no idea at the time what I was going to do with it, I just could not leave the little cabinet at the thrift store. So I scooped it up for $4.99.
One day I was inspired to use the cabinet on the living room mantle but it needed something to up it’s style. Enter matte gold washi tape!
I didn’t measure to create the design on the cabinet door. Just grabbed the tape and eyeballed it. Washi tape is pretty easy to work with and forgiving if you make a mistake.
The framed feather print was a clearance Home Goods find with perfect colors for this room and the painting is an original I created with a thrifted canvas and acrylic paints.
These curvy, brass candlesticks were another thrift store find.
I kept the shell chairs near the fireplace and added the stump table between them. I always need a rustic element with my modern. You can also see a peek of the gorgeous shag rug I added to the room.
And I added some plant life too. All of the other elements in the space I had on hand.
Stay tuned for more living room updates. I’ve been busy hanging new curtains and art!
Thanks for visiting!
