How is your Summer going? We are having a blast visiting family, going to VBS and now hitting the beach! In honor of our beach vacation this week I have a little fishy makeover for you today.
I bought these fine fellows at my favorite thrift store the other day.
Their sleek, dark appearance did not really appeal to me but they are made of solid wood and in great condition. I knew some chalk paint could really bring out the coastal personality of these guys. Plus what a great opportunity to try some of the color samples I won at Haven.
I chose Country Grey for the fish- it’s more of a green-grey and thus more fish like. The whale got a coat of Paris Grey which I think of as more whalish color. (Toootally makes sense right?)
After the first coat of paint was dry, I dry brushed both with some Old White and finished with a quick sanding and coat of wax. Here are the weathered, driftwood-y results.
I was going to take these guys to the barn for the next tag sale but I’m really liking them up there on the mantel.
I love playing with chalk paint and experimenting with layering to create this type of effect. What’s your favorite chalk paint technique?
