It’s been a busy Summer and I’ve been slacking in the blog department. But that doesn’t mean that I haven’t been working hard on great furniture projects for Persphone’s two locations, Ginger & Spice Marketplace and Stylish Patina. I’ve got an iPhoto full of pictures to share! Which brings me to…
To kick off this very special week of befores and afters I’m sharing a true trash to treasure project. This Summer I was at my sister-in-law’s house to celebrate my nephew’s birthday. My SIL asked her husband to take out the party trash and in the same breath turned to me and said, “Speaking of trash…”.
Now, maybe this story doesn’t sound very flattering but I’ve gotten a bit of a reputation as a junk collector and I’m fine with that! Especially when the junk looks like this!
Uh, that would be a fabulous wooden crate in my SIL’s trash. It was love at first sight. I saw the rustic potential in the piece and got right to work giving it a makeover.
First I cleaned out all the cobwebs and dirt and gave the wood a quick sanding. Next I applied a coat of Restor-A-Finish. Restor-A-Finish is most often used to darken scratches and cover blemishes in lieu of refinishing antique items. In this case I used it to darken the crate’s blonde wood tone and lend a more aged look.
The finishing touches were a set of four metal casters and jute rope handles. I love the typography originally stamped on the crate as well!
Can’t you see this cool crate filled with blankets and pillows by the fireplace? Or filled with poinsettias at Christmas? Or as a rustic toy box? I think the possibilities are endless. Thank goodness that crate didn’t go out with the trash! And many thanks my sister-in-law Laura!
