For today’s makeover you will have to hop over to Primitive & Proper! I’m doing a guest post about a piece of furniture for my own home that I am completely in L-O-V-E with. It’s helped me get into the back to school blogging spirit for sure and complete this week-long series!
In fact this makeover inspired me so much I came up with a little Back to School Mantel to go with it! You may remember my Spring mantel. Well I never got around to doing a Summer mantel so it stayed that way until this week. I’m not quite ready to decorate for Fall – the weather is still so warm here. So instead I went with a little Back to School theme. Check it.
The map is an old road map of Baltimore that I got with a bundle of similar maps at a yard sale for a dollar. My husband grew up in the Baltimore area and I went to college there so it’s the perfect map for our space. I used a thrifted frame painted with ASCP in Arles to frame the map and add a dash of color to the stone fireplace.
The books were freecycled to me and just needed their covers removed to give them an aged feel. The small globe is thrifted and the apples are real Galas we picked last week!
This mantel will work for me until I feel the cool, crisp Fall air. Then you can be sure I’ll be busting out the pumpkins! Do you start decorating for Fall as soon as the kids go back to school? Or do you wait till the weather changes?
Remember to check out the furniture before and after project that coordinates with the mantel over at Primitive & Proper!
